Plants with fiber root are good for roof garden. Don’t make a choice for the plants with deep roots as they can cause harm to the building. The plants with deep roots can be planted in big planters. While planting keep in mind that hard plants are planted at sunny side and plants requiring less sunlight are planted at non-sunny side. Several vegetables and shrubs can be grown in roof garden also. Heavy shrubs and vegetables with deep roots can damage the structure. You should prefer the plants having less requirement of water. Roof Flashing

Roof flashing technique is used to prevent water leaks from the roof of a house or a building. The flashing is a metal sheet which is installed at roof valleys/ gutter, chimneys, skylights, ridges, roof-wall intersections of the roof. Here are given a few roof flashings to stop leakage of water from the roof of your house.
  • Chimney flashing: This flashing is installed around the base of chimney to protect house from leakage. This flashing is fixed where walls of chimney rest on roof shingles. It has been categorized in two parts i.e. Cap flashing and Base flashing. Along the slope of roof, cap flashings are arranged in steps where upper steps overlap lower steps. Base flashing should be inserted in such a way on the roof consisting of slate, tiles or asphalt shingles as the joints are water tight living no possibility of leakage.
  • Valley flashing: This flashing is provided at the joints of two roofs to protect roof from leakage. The channel/gutter is provided on supports to drain out rain water from the roof.
  • Vent pipe flashing: this flashing is fixed over chimneys and pipes. It comes in shape of cone with a flange at the base and works into the shingles when roofing is applied.

Advantages, Disadvantages & Common Defects of A.C.C. Sheet Roofing

ACC sheet roofing is economical. It covers more space with less intermediate supports and remains cool. It takes less time for fixation as compared to RCC roof. This roof has some disadvantages also. It has problem of breakage and leakage. It is not so safe against disaster and can not be used for second storey. ACC sheet roof has some defects like the sheets are punched rather than they are drilled for making holes into bolts.

Wrong holes are made at some places and are not closed in later. The lap length of sheet is not proper. Cracked sheets are used for roofing. Hooks’ bolts are loose and the length of hooks’ bolts is not as per specification. Bitumen and G.I. limpet washers used are of sub standard. Bitumen washers are not provided at some places.
